MangaDex is offline, following several hacking attacks. The admins are expecting it to be down at least for a week, but potentially much longer.
On March 17th. MangaDex was shut down due to a hacker attacking the site and geting a hold of an old database. This database contains encrypted passwords from users. Obviously MangaDex took immediate action and started patching the security flaws they found.
On March 20th, the attacker strikes again. The hacker mails ten users with the following message, “MangaDex has a DB leak. I suggest you tell their staff about it.” The hacker also accesses another developer’s account and the site shuts down again.
The same day, the hacker claims MangaDex only fixed two out of three issues. With the knowledge of this, the admins decides to close down the site until further notice.
Check the print screens of the message that appears when you go to MangaDex.org below:
I’m keeping my fingers crossed the situation solves itself for them! I suggest you check the progress via Twitter account.
A bad day for any comic fan, but at least “I’m The Grim Reaper” returns today, so we’ll have to take the small rays of happiness!
