Very rarely do we see such a calculating and determined female lead as we see in “I Tamed a Tyrant and Ran Away”. It keeps impressing me with both the storytelling, but also the incredible art.

What I found unique about “I Tamed A Tyrant And Ran Away” is how the main character seeks out her revenge. We can understand her feelings of grief, remorse and anger. Instead of moping around, she decides she will be taking revenge against the very empire that harmed her. Despite her anger, she’s not fully unsympathetic towards others’ feelings. Nor is she cruel simply because she can be. Instead she’s calculating and manipulative.
Interestingly enough, the reason for her revenge is because she became a sword. Yes, like a physical sword, used as a tool for the emperor and his lust for power.
If that wasn’t sad enough, she spent hundreds of years alone, being cursed by people as a “demon”. Her consciousness was still there, except she couldn’t do anything about it.
As our main female character, Charlize Ronan, wishes to reverse time, the gods in the universe grants her wish. She’s returning a few years prior to her “swordification”. She immediately sets her plans in motion.
The art style is gorgeous and the character of Charlize Ronan equally so. She might be overpowered as a character, but I can honestly believe the reasoning behind it. The time didn’t “reset” but instead it “reversed”, but you maintain your abilities and feelings. Like a game+, if you ever encountered that in games.
Moreover, I enjoyed the narration of the webtoon. Instead of the character having all these thoughts, we’re left with a narration of events that is neutral. Sort of. I enjoyed it because it makes it seem more like a fairytale being narrated by someone else. It also makes it easier to understand the plot.
My only concern is the story will become sappy. As the title suggests, she’ll leave and the main male lead will chase her down. I just hope it doesn’t turn into a sappy romance manhwa after that. It would be sad and a waste of the great start.
Recommendation: Definitely a Must Read
