The Princess’s Double Life surprised me with an interesting female lead whose morals are dubious at best. I’m still not fully hooked, though.

The Princess’s Double Life Summary
A master of disguise, master of escape.
The genius swindler ‘Viper’, a death rower who turned over the empire, was approached by the tyrant of the battlefield, Grand Duke Hessen, one day.
“Hey, you’re gonna have to help me out a little.”
“How can I help you?”
“I’m going to try to go against the Emperor.”
The Imperial Shame, Mad Dog of the North, Tyrant of the Battlefield.
When even his brain is made of muscles, what can possibly be done?
“You must find a way to make me emperor. Otherwise, it’s just death.”
Caught by her eagerness to survive, it all rely on the likelihood of succeeding this extreme survival mission! Let’s turn this royal bastard into an emperor!
You know…we’re working, not dating, right?
“Do you hear that? My heart is beating like a crazy bastard when I’m with you. It’s a poisonous side effect, isn’t it?”
“And when I see you, this crazy wrist also flinches. I think it wants to touch you like this.”
Rexid’s hand on her back shook. I felt his fist clenched.
“In case you misunderstand, I am telling you, I don’t mean to want to grope you.”
I do really like The Princess’s Double Life, but I do have concerns, too. Initially I was quite smitten by the story, since it’s pretty fun and interesting.
I really like the fact the female lead is a scammer in both lives and she’s not afraid to basically rob people. However, I do find it odd how she’s suddenly feeling bad for the prince.
It just screams a bit too much of a trope, sadly. If she doesn’t feel bad at all for someone whom she robs off all their possessions, why the prince?
Although she’s not heartless, she even comments she’s never cared this much about someone else. Cute and lovely, yes. Unrealistic? Also yes.
Overall I do like the story though. The female lead is fun and I love the way she plans ahead and judges people of their worth. I know some people won’t like that, but I kind-of do.
I’m not sure I fully understand the adoption idea, though. But I suppose it sort-of makes sense but it makes for a weird relationship once they fall in love with each other.
Final thoughts: Overall not a bad story, but I’m not fully sold yet. Check it out and make your opinion about it!
