The Boy Out Of My Reach starts out with a common trope of a hot childhood friend disguising himself as a nerd.

The Boy Out Of My Reach Summary

Haruka’s childhood friend and neighbour is the popular high school model Sano Souta. He hides in plainsight dressed as a massive geek at school.

Both their mothers are single moms and got along so well that the two families even moved in together.

What’s going to happen to these two childhood friends when Haruka is suddenly pushed to join her friend for a double date?

The Boy Out Of My Reach [First Impression]
I’m unsure about my feelings regarding The Boy Out Of My Reach. It doesn’t seem to be special in any form, at least not in terms of a unique plot.

Our female and male lead have feelings for each other. However, the guy hides them and the girl isn’t yet aware of her feelings.

Like most shoujo manga series, it all changes when she’s going on a double date and out male lead gets jealous.

I must say I like the relationship and the family situation. The fact we have two single moms is just awesome, especially since they join forces (basically). I don’t see that a lot in series, so it’s refreshing to see that constellation.

Overall the story feels a bit plain and mundane, but it may have potential to be good. Who doesn’t like heart-throbbing male idols disguising themselves?

I read some comments, claiming Souta isn’t a great male lead due to typical personality traits. As in possessive, arrogant and self-centred.

If you’re looking for school life series, I recommend you check out the school-life tag. Anything with a recommendation tag is worth reading in my opinion!

Recommendation: Might be worth checking out, but don’t expect a lot.
