When I first started reading “A Lady’s Table”, I wasn’t expecting it to be a cannibalism story. Although there’s more to it than that, of course.

Louann, working as a maid of the mansion, accidentally finds out the lady of the house’s scary secret on her first day of work and she’s now invited to a strange meal…
There were hints from the beginning the meat wasn’t “normal”, I just knew it from the way Louann was looking at it. This really explains why the lady of the house, Anna, allowed the nobles to insult her as much as they did. Joke’s on them, she’ll have them for dinner!
I will say this story is messed up in various ways. Louann has a dark past of her own, almost becoming an arsonist to escape her poor family history.
Instead she did the next-best thing and saved people from the fire she set. I don’t think she’s a good person, because it’s implied she would have let them all burn if it hadn’t benefitted her more to save them.
As for the lady, she also has a tragic past which lead her to a state of mental illness. The fact she’s left in the mansion without her family also affected her, I bet. Overall the story isn’t bad, but I can agree it feels rushed.
There’s multiple instances where it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Apparently a lot of people are killed, yet no one comes to investigate? This would have been a nice plot point had the story continued.
Likewise, how the hell can a woman overpower a man? I know how that sounds, but the lady living in the house didn’t look that strong. Unless she drugged the guests, which I guess could be something she did.
Recommendation: If you like stories a bit messed up, this one is for you. Beware of mental trauma and cannibalism, plus some “shoujo ai” (nothing explicit is shown at all).
