Right off the bat, I wasn’t expecting THIS when I was clicking on the title and started reading. I felt initially like it was a children’s book, but definitely do not let children read this.
There is so much blood. So much murder and so much intrigue. And it’s being narrated by a cat, can it get better?
I may sound like I’m disliking the story, but it’s far from the truth. In fact, I’d go so far to say I really, really love this story. It’s going to be one of those stories that will stick to my mind years from now.
Our narrator is a male cat, who is extremely intelligent. He’s learning what he can learn at home, until one day the family decides to move away. It seems the father of the family fell in love with country life, so they moved to the country side.
Once there, we’re introduced to our cat’s nemesis, a dog. This dog is also very smart, but he’s also vicious.
Attacks start happening around the village and one of the cat’s friends gets killed by the dog, too. Now, the cat’s smart enough to know he can’t attack head on – so he bides his time.
We’re also introduced to the hens, specifically White Beak and Black Rose. Both of these hens play an integral part in the slaughter that’s about to happen.
I won’t spoil anymore than that, but it’s definitely a story about revenge. As well as becoming content with the life you have.
I absolutely love this story and the art, too. I never could have imagined I’d be reading a story about chickens, cats and dogs, but here we are. The story is seemingly perfectly balanced, allowing us to feel sorry for the events that transpire and adrenaline rush for what what’s coming.
Maybe our pets have secret lives we don’t know about? Who knows, but I hope they’re not doing this on their spare time.
Recommendation: If you can stomach blood and animals killing animals, then this is something you definitely should read. Sadly, it is violent so if that’s not something you can deal with, it may be difficult to finish it.
